Minerals
Dinah Shuman spoke at our club on December 18, 2007. She graduated from Dartmouth and worked for the State of California for ten years. The science of geology was developed to find and use minerals. She showed us different mines throughout Calfornia. These mines are regulated by both federal and state agencies. California produces about 22 million tons which is used solely in our state. In California, 222 million tons of construction aggregate are needed annually for construction. Subsequently, old mine waste is recycled for construction aggregate. Mining engineers are also in high demand and many scholarships are available.
